CATCH OF THE DAY: A look into who will win this weekend in football

My predictions for a very interesting weekend of football include New England Patriots, New York Giants, Nebraska Cornhuskers as winners.

Well, football season is here and completely underway. Already there have been some big losses in the college and pro football. This week I’m going to tell you who is going to be upset this weekend.

Southern Cal at Washington: So many people will say that this is going to be a blowout game. I am on the opposite end. Washington will win this game because they have the best quarterback in the Pac-10, Jake Locker.

USC might have Matt Barkley, but he did not play well against an overrated Ohio State team that plays in a very overrated conference in the Big Ten. USC is a tough team, but they are in a rebuilding year. Any time you start a freshmen quarterback and have to rebuild a defense that was in the top 10 last season, it is a rebuilding year.

Next year they will be a big force to reckon with, but this season they will lose to some teams. The first will be Washington.

Don’t forget both offensive and defensive coordinators from last year’s team are now coaching the Huskies. I know all college kids are looking for the good bets and the 22 points the books give the Trojans is too much. Washington will definitely cover, but I think they pull the upset.

Nebraska at Virginia Tech: The Cornhuskers are on their way back to where they were a decade ago. This is a great chance for them to claim that the Big 12 isn’t just about the Texas and Oklahoma teams. The ACC might be the only conference that is more overrated then the Big Ten.

Tyrod Taylor has only completed 18 passes in his first two games. The defense for Virginia Tech is very good, but the Huskers can score from all over the field. In two games, they almost have 1,000 offensive yards. They may have only played Arkansas State and Florida International, but those two games have instilled confidence in this team and like I said, the ACC is vastly overrated.

The two biggest games in the NFL revolve around the Big Apple. The New York Giants face the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas and the New England Patriots are at the New York Jets.

NYG at DAL: The Giants-Cowboys game is huge for both teams. The Cowboys are trying to find their image coming off a big victory in week one. The Giants are trying to get back on the track of the Super Bowl team of a few years ago. The defenses will dictate this game. I think the Giants will upend the Cowboys in their brand new stadium.

NEW at NYJ: The Patriots got really lucky last week after Buffalo scared them. The Jets looked like a real contender in the AFC East. Now the two will clash early in the season. Tom Brady looked very raw in the first half of the Bills’ game, missing throws that he would usually make. Sanchez on the other hand looked like a veteran with his play over the Texans last week. It may be a high scoring affair but I think it will come down to who has the better coaches, and New England wins that battle every day. New England proves they are still the team to beat in the AFC East after Sunday.
