The Rebels will host the Redhawks in their only game of the week

The UNLV volleyball team has had a rough stretch lately, losing three straight games to Mountain West Conference opponents. This week the Rebels will look to get back on track, as they host Seattle University for the first time in either school’s history.

Seattle has had a rough season, too. This is the first year they have been eligible to play Division I volleyball and they have not been without tough opponents.

On the year, they are 5-14 while playing tough Pac-10 powers in Washington, Oregon and Oregon State. To add insult to injury, they have also had two separate losing streaks of five games or more.

Cristin Richards, who has 225 kills this year, giving her 3.36 kills per set, will lead the Redhawks into the Cox Pavillion on Saturday. Jamie Mellies will also be big for Seattle, as she leads the team in assists with 558 assists, 90 percent of the team’s total assists.

Defensively, the team is solid. Five players have more than 100 digs. Jordan Keller leads the team in blocks with 1.23 per set.

The Rebels are looking to use the match against the Redhawks for momentum, as they will be hitting the road next week to face MWC foes.

The Rebels will lean on Cursty Jackson, Sarah Neuf and Erin Greenwood to get by the Redhawks.

Jackson leads the team in kills (133), kills per set (2.93), total blocks (43), and assisted blocks (36). She has been the catalyst of the team the whole year, which is a big responsibility for the young sophomore.

Neuf will be big for the Rebels, as she has chipped in with 119 kills, but also has 79 digs.

Greenwood has the best hitting efficentcy on the team with a .327 and leads the team in solo blocks with 11.

She is also in second with total blocks (38) and assisted blocks (27).

After Seattle, the Rebels will travel to Dallas to face TCU and then to Albuquerque to meet the with Lobos. The Rebels will need to feed off of the momentum of this match, as it is the only match of the week before the daunting road trip.
