Baseball: The Hustlin’ Rebels will have home-field advantage going into the Mountain West Conference tournament next year.
The MWC officially named Earl E. Wilson Stadium as the site of the conference’s year-end tournament for 2012.
UNLV has hosted the tournament on three other occasions — in 2004, 2006 and 2007. UNLV won in 2004, and TCU won the other two years.
This tournament will be held May 24-27, 2012, and will be the 13th MWC tournament. UNLV is a three-time champion, winning three straight titles from 2003-05.
The tournament has been under a six-team, double-elimination format every year except 2006 —when it expanded to seven teams — but for 2012 the number of teams will be dropped to four. With BYU and Utah leaving the MWC, only five teams will field baseball teams, so the top four teams will compete in the tournament.
Whoever wins the MWC championship yearly receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
