12” of Sin brings erotic art from around the world

In Las Vegas, size does matter.

That’s the motto of Sin City’s newest art exhibition, anyway. Dr. Laura Henkel, the owner and curator of Sin City Gallery, has produced and directed the new 12” of Sin International Erotic Art Show.

Henkel’s vision of displaying juror-selected art from around the world comes with a catch: The work must be done in an area no larger than 12” in any direction.

The top-25 entries will be displayed at the opening, including: “The Brazilian” by Edmond Bouclaous of Beirut, Lebanon, “Femme No. 8” by CACOC of Winnipeg, Canada and “Aphrodite 2” by Mark Mellon of Nevada.

Entrants were not bound by any theme and the art explores a variety of subjects.

This is Las Vegas’ first international juried erotic art exhibition. The winner, announced Feb. 2, will be flown to Vegas for a solo exhibit at the Sin City Gallery and will have their exhibit featured in the 12” of Sin book.

Meant to provide an outlet for the “exhibition and sale of unconventional, physically engaging and otherwise challenging artwork” Sin City Gallery seeks to satisfy a person as a whole — arousing and engaging the body, mind and spirit.

The gallery is sponsoring an after party, “Party in the Afterglow,” following the opening of the exhibition on Thursday at Artifice in Downtown Las Vegas.

“Party in the Afterglow” will feature entertainment from burlesque performers Lou Lou Roxy, Cha Cha Velour, Miss Karla Joy, Miss Miranda Glamour, Dani D’Lish and Miss TriniTease, an appearance by Uncle Marvin Pervetti, Drag King Jeffery Brice and performance artist Heather ‘Calliopie’ Hermann.

Lexi, thank you for writing about 12″ of Sin at Sin City Gallery. Artists will be at the gallery on February 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. After the opening reception, our Party in the Afterglow at Artifice is a FREE EVENT with lots of burlesque and other entertainers. DJ Carey Cowart from the Foundation Room will be mixing, too.

Lots of great art in The Arts Factory that night so I hope peeps want to make a night of it in the 18b Arts District.
