The 54th-ranked men’s tennis squad improved to 3-2 for the season following a tiebreaker win by senior Rene Ruegamer.
UNLV’s upperclassmen had a strong showing at the matches against Loyola Marymount. The Rebels won three of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.
Ruegamer was matched up with Alex Wilson. After the umpire awarded Ruegamer the win, the final score of the match was 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.
In doubles play, Ruegamer and fellow senior Alex Bull defeated Nicholas Bjerke and Todd Volmari 8-4. Senior Brian Kenyon and Junior Bernard Schoeman beat Daniel Simko and Nick Northcott 8-4.
Bull enjoyed a successful singles match as well, defeating Volmari 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Willie Sublette beat Simko with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
UNLV will host 59th-ranked New Mexico State next Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Admission to every UNLV tennis match is free of charge.
