Say goodbye to Springfield
A Springfield citizen will soon be performing their swan song from the primetime, animated series.
In a conference call with the press this past week, The Simpsons Executive Producer Al Jean leaked to reporters that a script is in the works for a character to be killed off the show.
Since the news broke, online fans have run rampant with speculation, trying to cope with the information that one of their beloved characters will be making a fatal exit from the series.
Jean disclosed a small tidbit with reporters.
“I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is,” Jean said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter.
For those familiar with the impressive list of awards accumulated by The Simpsons, virtually all the core cast and even a few guest stars such as Kelsey Grammer, who voices the infamous villain Sideshow Bob, have brought home Emmys for their work on the series. So although not a dead giveaway, the character in question will likely be a major one at that.
Jean also told the Hollywood Reporter that the episode will air sometime in mid-late 2014.
Other highlights this season include a Simpsons-meet-Futurama cross-over episode, the Comic Book Guy’s wedding officiated by none other than Marvel creator Stan Lee and “Treehouse of Horror” XXIV.
Season 25 of The Simpsons airs weekly on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. on Fox.
