UNLV team places second in regional advertising competition 


UNLV advertising students placed second in a regional marketing competition last week.

The university team beat out seven others from the southwest region, losing only to UCLA. Last year the team from UNLV’s Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies were regional finalists and advanced as far as the national competition. There they finished sixth out of eighteen other teams.

UNLV’s team took home the “Boldest Idea” award from competition judges, which included industry professionals. They won the honor for designing a new product line to reach Millennial customers.

This year the National Student Advertising Competition tasked students with developing a $10 million public relations campaign for Mary Kay designed to increase their customer base of 18-25 year old females.

UNLV beat out teams from big schools like USC; the University of California, San Diego and Cal Poly.

The NSAC is an annual competition organized by the American Advertising Federation. The national competition will take place May 29 to 31 in Boca Raton, FL.
