Source: Smith transferring to Arizona
A good number of UNLV’s seniors have remained committed to UNLV despite the Rebels’ bowl ban this upcoming season.
All for except Adonis Smith.
The senior running back, who was projected to be the starter next season, is transferring to Arizona to play his final year of eligibility, a source told The Rebel Yell.
Smith transferred from Northwestern at the end of the 2011 season, but sat out the 2012 season due to the NCAA’s transfer eligibility rules. Smith told the source that he’ll use the Rebels’ bowl ban by the NCAA, as well as it being his last season of college football, as for reasons to play immediately in 2014.
Smith came into the 2013 season projected to be the backup to Tim Cornett, but he only had 28 carries for 70 yards during his junior year.
Although Smith was more than likely going to be the starting running back in 2014, he faced competition in the form of David Greene, who played safety for UNLV last season.
Smith told reporters after the spring showcase on April 11 that it was a “slap to the face” for Greene to be moved to running back.
