They reported 21,683 new cases for this state alone.

Florida has become the new epicenter of contagion in the United States. Every fifth new case was reported there.

Governor Ron DeSantis and state lawmakers refused to impose compulsory face covering on the population. They have also restricted what local authorities can take as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For example, Mr DeSantis on Friday banned school authorities from forcing their students to wear masks when they go back to school next month.

The data was published on the website of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. They show the speed at which the disease spreads within the disease. The day before, 17,334 new cases had been reported.

The number of hospital admissions is nearing the peak seen during last year’s wave. Operations are postponed to make beds available for new patients.

The previous record on January 7th was 19,334 new cases.

Proof that things are getting worse there: Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWolrd theme parks are requiring visitors to wear face-coverings indoors. Universal even ordered its employees to wear one and respect physical distance.

“The health and safety of all of our visitors and employees is a priority for us,” Universal said in a statement.
