Elon Musk defends nuclear power

Nuclear energy is considered “clean energy” because the production of nuclear energy does not release greenhouse gases. But due to some high-profile accidents, nuclear power plants have gotten a bad rap. More importantly, a major environmental concern related to nuclear power is the creation of radioactive waste, such as uranium processing residues, spent reactor fuel, and other radioactive waste. These materials can remain radioactive and dangerous to human health for thousands of years. But according to Elon Musk, it is possible to have truly “safe” power plants.

“Modern nuclear power plants are safe”

All the energy we produce comes from basic physical and chemical processes. This has been achieved primarily throughout history by burning carbon-based materials such as wood, coal, and gas, or by harnessing energy from the sun, wind, and water. Fission and fusion are two physical processes that produce massive amounts of energy from atoms, and it is these processes that nuclear technology uses, with a clear propensity for a cheaper and more productive fission, more polluting.

However, for the head of Tesla, we should build more nuclear power plants because it would be a better way to produce energy than a coal plant or a natural gas plant. A pronuclear trend that the businessman has never defended himself against, quite the contrary.

And this Wednesday at a conference on cryptocurrencies and especially Bitcoin, Elon Musk said: “I believe that modern nuclear power plants are safe contrary to what people may think.” Furthermore, he added: “I really believe that it is possible to make nuclear power very … extremely safe.” A statement that could lead to believe that the head of Space X had found a way to carry out nuclear fusion at a lower cost, but Musk immediately clarified: “I’m talking about fission. It is not necessary to merge ”. Without developing your idea.
