The popular instant messaging app WhatsApp intends to do more for its users. Sure enough, the Facebook-owned firm has decided to add a new feature, which offers the ability to send ephemeral images and videos. This is a new way to manage photos instead of permanently storing them on smartphones.
The functionality is already offered by another application.
The new feature is called View Once (voir une fois, in French) and is available on smartphones with IOS or Android operating systems. WhatsApp gave the reasons why it offers such a feature. On his blog, he said: “Everything we share does not need to become a permanent digital record. On many phones, simply taking a photo means it will take up space in your gallery forever. ” Note that the View Once feature is already offered by another famous app, Snapchat. Indeed, the latter offers, for ten years, the sending of multimedia files in an ephemeral way.
Ephemeral messages will be encrypted end to end
However, since the file cannot be stored, the recipient has the option of taking a screenshot or photographing its screen. However, regarding the privacy aspect, unlike WhatsApp, Snapchat notifies the sender if the recipient takes a screenshot. In addition, on its blog, the Facebook firm highlighted that all ephemeral messages will be end-to-end encrypted.
